Amazing Faith

Consider the unwielding faith of three Hebrews up against the unwielding will of a tyrannical king. They have refused to bow down to Nebuchadnezzar's massive, golden idol. After they are given a second chance to bow, they respond to the king:

Daniel 3:16-18 (NIV)
“O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us from it, and he will rescue us from your hand, O king. But even if he does not, we want you to know, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.”

This is amazing faith, to serve God for who He is regardless of the outcome. To trust that God can rescue if He desires, but to not presume upon His will. To do what is right knowing it may cost your life. To believe in God at all cost. The Hebrews knew that God is always worth it. This is amazing faith.

Is this perhaps the difference between worshiping God for who He is versus worshiping God for how he benefits you?
